New steakhouse could anchor retail at AT580

Since plans for the former 580 Building, now known as AT580, have been released, the first potential new retail tenant was also revealed.

Mo's A Place for Steaks signed a letter of intent to lease the roughly 9,000-square-foot space at the corner of Sixth and Walnut streets, developer Tony Birkla said yesterday at the end of a news conference revealing the renovation plans for the downtown office building.

While it's just a letter of intent at this point, the food served after the news conference was over was provided by Mo's.

Mo's is a high-end steakhouse concept that started in Milwaukee, Wisc. in 1999. Since then, three more Mo's locations have opened, including one in Houston and two in the Indianapolis area.

Owner Jeremiah Hamman has said in the next five years he hopes to open up to 12 steak restaurant locations. He and his team currently are looking at Cincinnati; Chicago; Austin, Texas; and Dallas as possible markets to grow the brand, according to an interview with Business Courier sister publication the Milwaukee Business Journal.

Prices at Mo's in Indianapolis are about the same as what customers would find at Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse, except Mo’s lists three cuts of Wagyu beef, ranging from $73 for an 8 ounce filet to $119 for a 30 ounce ribeye.

Birkla, a partner with Anderson Birkla Investment Partners, said there has been a great deal of interest in the retail space at AT580.
