Luxury apartments coming to Deerfield Township

The same Indianapolis-based development company that wants to convert the 580 Building into downtown residences also is building a luxury apartment complex in Deerfield Township.

Anderson Birkla Investment Partners LLC acquired 14 acres on the south side of Natorp Boulevard in October for $2.2 million from Duke Realty. The company immediately sold three acres to another developer for a Homewood Suites hotel, according to Anderson Birkla principal Tony Birkla. An entity named Deerfield Hospitality LLC paid $900,000 for that site at the corner of Natorp and Wilkins Boulevard.

Anderson Birkla plans to build 227 apartments on the remaining acreage as part of a mixed-use neighborhood called Latitude at Deerfield Crossing, Birkla said. A Duke office building occupies adjacent property to the east.

“What we’re setting up to do is something that’s not happening in that market. We’re going to have a luxury product, luxury prices,” Birkla said.

The units will average about 1,000 square feet and should be ready for occupancy in the spring or early summer, he said.
